On January 1, 2025, the Nifty 50 index closed at 23,742.90 points, marking an increase of 98.10 points (0.41%) from the previous close.

The day's trading saw the Nifty 50 reach a high of 23,822.80 and a low of 23,562.80.

The automotive sector led the gains, with the Nifty Auto index rising by 1.3%.

Maruti Suzuki's shares climbed 3.2% following a 30% increase in December sales to dealers, while Mahindra & Mahindra gained 2.4% due to an 18% rise in car sales, driven by strong demand for sports utility vehicles.

In contrast, two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto and tractor maker Escorts Kubota saw declines of 0.7% and 1%, respectively, after reporting drops in December sales.

Additionally, power generation firm SJVN's stock rose by 6.2% after signing an agreement with a state government for energy storage projects.

Overall, 37 out of the 50 constituent stocks of the Nifty 50 ended the day in positive territory.
